Missed, Again

Barely conscious if this, I have been keeping half-an-eye out for a 1986 Kawasaki 250R Ninja. I missed this one, this week, on Craig's List. It wasn't a great price, but there is something about the first generation Ninja 250 that I really like. We used to call it "Little Grasshopper," for the leggy space between the wheels and the bodywork.

Nice. I also like the new wave of 250s we're starting to see from Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. I read the 2013 Ninja is getting upgraded with FI and ABS, and maybe some other doodads. Somewhere I think I read that Suzuki is going to bring in a more sportbike oriented 250 too. The 250 size has a sentimental appeal to me since I did a lot of learning on a Suzuki X6 Hustler back in the day.

Contrary to sales-asshole insanity, a 250 is the perfect sized bike to learn on and for many daily commuting purposes. I hope you're right. The major manufacturers are missing a big bet (which Chinese scooter manufacturers are hitting hard) with small, high-efficiency bikes. Their dealers have no idea how to sell these motorcycles, so heavy education will be necessary to create a solid market.
