After a few months with the truck, she was totally onboard. She started her driving life with my 1967 VW Beetle convertible and about 2/3 of the vehicles we've owned have been manual transmission. Sooner or later, her bad knees might drive us back to an automatic. <br /><br />I think it depends on what I'm doing if it takes thought to shift. I think about it hard when I'm driving on ice, for example. Downshifting is no different than just using the rear brakes, for example, and can really toss the truck into a slide easily. I tend to stay about 1-2 gears higher than normal on slick roads, too. More predictable traction and less of a critical throttle control requirement. T.W. As far as I'm concerned, you shouldn't be able to take an auto test unless you have a physical reason for not being able to cope with a manual.
